Purchase Code Already Used on Another Domain

If you see a message that your Purchase Code is already used on another domain, don’t worry — this usually happens when the theme was previously registered on a different website.

Depending on where the purchase code was activated, the solution can be different.

This guide explains when you need to unregister a domain and when you don’t.

Understanding How License Registration Works

Our theme supports license activation on:

  • Live (production) websites

  • Local or staging websites (for development & testing)

The system automatically detects whether a domain is live or staging based on the website URL.

Case 1: Purchase Code Used on a Live Domain

If you have activated the purchase code on a live website (a domain that does not contain staging keywords like .local, .dev, .staging, etc.) and now want to move the site to another live domain, you must unregister the old live domain first.

Example

  • Old site: https://example.com

  • New site: https://newexample.com

What to Do

  1. Log in to your TemplatesCoder account

  2. Go to the License section

  3. Unregister the old live domain associated with your purchase code 👉 https://support.templatescoder.com/arrow-up-right

  4. Wait a few minutes

  5. Register the theme again on the new live domain

This ensures the purchase code is only used on one live website, as per ThemeForest licensing rules.

Case 2: Purchase Code Used on a Staging or Local Site

If the purchase code was activated on a staging or local website, you do not need to unregister it before moving to a live domain.

Staging and local environments are allowed for development purposes and are not counted as live usage.

Example

  • Staging site: https://demo.example.local

  • Live site: https://example.com

What to Do

  • Simply install the theme on the live site

  • Register the theme using the same purchase code

Important Rule to Remember

You only need to unregister a domain if the purchase code was previously activated on a live domain.

If the purchase code was used only on staging or local sites, unregistering is not required.

Helpful Tips

  • After unregistering a live domain, wait a few minutes before registering again

  • Use an incognito/private browser window to avoid cache-related issues

  • Make sure your live domain does not contain staging keywords
